Welcome to the Community @MyNewCar_IsALemon ,
Vehicle manufacturers have an ignoble history of responding to design problems (a lemon product) as well as an individual customer’s problem (a lemon vehicle).
There are some related topics that suggest it is not just SSangyong but also a number of old-line ‘respected’ brands. Most of the following topics are old but answering your question (for most manufacturers) is essentially ‘no’ in the general case, but sometimes perseverance pays.
It should be easy to get a refund when your new car doesn’t work due to a manufacturing defect but unfortunately that’s rarely the case. Instead new car owners stuck with lemons spend countless hours waiting at the repair shop, liaising with their car dealer or scrutinising the manufacturer’s warranty. This shouldn’t be the way. When a new car, just like any other product, is faulty and doesn’t work, you should be able to easily get a remedy of your choosing, like a refund or replacement.

“Time for an ombudsman”. The call has been put out for a ‘lemon vehicles’ ombudsmen in Victoria. What do you think about the proposal and should other states and territories follow suit?

Reports of major problems with specific brands - notably the Chrysler/Jeep range, Mercedes and BMW, and horror stories about dealers and importers highlight the need. Add to that the appalling saga of Volkswagen’s (and its other brands’) deceptions and the need for consumers to be protected by law.
Fortunately I don’t own any of the affected brands, but I’m horrified at reading and hearing about the horrors that …
Hi all, I am hoping that someone in the Choice Community might be able to help with advice.
On my birthday 3 years ago we purchased a 7 year old BMW X1 from BMW at Rushcutters Bay in Sydney. The car had 58,000 kilometers and we have driven around 12,000 km in the 3 years that we have had the car. My wife has driven the car most of the time locally. I am 75 and on an aged pension as is my wife. We bought the car for $19000 drive away which seem to be a great bargain. With the low mileage I felt …
Choice has been looking at this for some years without the traction we consumers would hope for. Tactics that have helped specific individuals include such as this one (and many others, often about Jeep)
as well as taking it to TV
