It would be good to know there they are made.
Looking at the Aldi labelling, one star means it is definitely treat food.
The ingredients of the different pies taste tested may also be of interest. To be truely traditional should the pie be made using suet as the key fat?
I suspect none do. The Aldi product in particular says it’s suitable for vegetarians, suggesting suet is not part of the NZ manufacturers ingredients.
Perhaps ‘traditional style’ might be a more appropriate product label?
I’ve known others to make their own, suet optional, but preferred.
Suet has been removed even from Robertsons Fruit Mince and replaced with a vegetable fat for at least the last 4 years. Still tastes great!
You are making it difficult! I have been buying and putting fruit mince pies away for Christmas since the Christmas food appeared.
Now I want to go and ‘test’ them to see which tastes the best. I’m trying to resist…
