Good question, and maybe someone here can share their experience.
Choice consumers are more likely to be asking for advice on what to look out for when purchasing a used vehicle. Or how to assert ones rights according to the ACL (Australian Consumer Law).

Hi I used to sell my used cars privately, around 10 over the years. But I found that it became a longer and longer process. Even though with passing time I reduced asking price.
The car advice writers nearly all suggest private being best way to go citing the redbook or similar valuations. Only once did I achieve this goal.
So now I go the trade in route accepting I may be losing some $ but its a clean and swift process. Course if you are not buying from a dealer then this option is not there.

Couldnt agree more, its a really frustrating process, all the scammers out there and then the tyre kickers… ive listed my mint car - priced it the cheapest in the country and still no luck. So i have done similar to you suggested and accepted an ‘instant offer’ via carsales. Guntree, market place and some of the buy swap sell pages seem to be more “is this still available” time wasters than anything.
Think i want to keep my new car for 10 years as i cant be bothered with this lol
