We received notice that the fees for Westpac Altitude Platinum Rewards cards are going up from $150 to $175 and they are ending a promotion where they gave some customers an upgrade from Platinum to Black for a few years, renewal going from $150 to the standard $295 p.a… In each case one can easily downgrade or cancel if they desire. Will the transaction fees leading to pesky surcharges be going up too?

Some of us use credit card features that are not duplicated by debit cards. Working folks can shop around but retired seniors not so easily without those prized and [usually] mandated regular PAYG slips.

Surely this should have gone into one of the existing finance sector topics?

I had looked but did not see one precisely relevant although many pirouetted around it.
