Vevor is a homewares and lifestyle online retailer selling a range of different products from baby equipment to electronics. We’ve heard a number of products have been the subject of recalls in the US and the UK, and CHOICE has previously tested a few items from the site.
We’d like to hear from more from Australians about their experiences shopping on the site. If you have used online retailer, please leave a comment below.
I’ve made several purchases from Vevor over many years. I’ve never had a problem with any of the items. I’m not usually seeking a ‘trade quality’ item, but something to do the job, maybe a one-off, and I’ve found it’s often cheaper to buy the item from them than it is to try to hire the same item from a hire company. This was certainly the case with a large jackhammer I got from them to fully strip and renovate an ensuite a couple of years back. The hire cost for 2 days was less than the purchase price of their jackhammer, and I wasn’t then rushed to do the considerable amount of physical work required. I could comfortably do it over a week or more. The bonus is that I have the item to use again if required. I have one of their CO2 Laser machines as well. Heavily modified since purchase more than 8 years ago, and it’s still going strong after wearing out one CO2 tube and a power supply, but that’s expected wear and tear.
Most recently, I purchased a tap and die set that, unfortunately, arrived with damaged packaging. An apparently careless injury in transit (they do use one of Australia’s worst Courier Companies), the damage had penetrated the outer cardboard and the inner bubble wrap and punctured the blow-moulded case. The damage weakened the case, but after contacting Vevor and supplying photos of the damage BEFORE the parcel was opened, they gave me a decent discount on the price I paid.
I quite like the Vevor stuff, and I usually check their prices and items before I buy tools and other stuff.
I hadn’t heard of them. A Chinese company badging products under the Vevor brand.
It looks like their products, even though available for purchase in Australia don’t meet basic Australian safety requirements, such as Australian Standards, EESS certification for electrical safety, watermarks etc. This substantially increases the risk of injury or death. Particularly concerning when their products seem to be targeting DIYers and small businesses.
Their website however claims that some products meets FCC and CE requirements, noting these are different to Australian safety requirements. This was in response to a question whether their products have WaterMark certification, a fairly basic requirement when selling water and drainage products in Australia.
They also sell safety equipment as well. Extremely concerning as these are unlikely to meet Australian requirements for such equipment.

I suspect this won’t be an isolated example within their product range. I personally wouldn’t buy from them as I value my life more than saving a few dollars. If you are a business buying their products, and as I am a business owner, I hate to think of the consequences should something go wrong (impacting on employees, customers etc).
I have purchased a number of Vevor gardening products and have found them to be of good quality. They were dispatched quickly and arrived in good condition. I like Vevor as it has items you can’t purchase at Bunnings, particularly gardening equipment.
If an unapproved for Australia item is at fault it also could, in theory if not necessarily practice, trigger a refusal of an insurance claim.
Yes, one of many concerns. If used in business, there are potentially personal liability issues (industrial manslaughter, criminal negligence etc).
The other concern I have is one could easy think the website is Australian and therefore ‘since’ (it is believed) it is an Australian business, they would sell equipment which met Australian (safety, electrical, legal) requirements. The website/Vevor is being highly deceptive as one needs to do some searching on Vevor to determine who they are. It is only after doing these searches do the risks become apparent.
Some of their products could be good quality, but, how does one know when they choose to flout basic Australian product requirements established to protect consumers.
