Unscrupulous Behaviour Of Gambling Operators

Hilarious. Should happen more often.

“…the fact that WA experiences fewer gambling problems can only be explained by the fact that fewer people in WA gamble on EGMs,” it said.

The report said it would be reasonable to conclude that if WA had more EGMs, the number of problem gamblers would increase.

“In fact, our analyses … suggest that people who play EGMs in WA are just as likely to have gambling problems as people who play EGMs elsewhere.”

After the latest takeover of Crown by Blackstone was announced today, the mug punters have pushed the shares up by $1.64 today.

Perhaps they will exceed the previous high of over $13 before they slumped to below $9 after the last takeover announcement?

Perhaps they will end up at a new low?

In either case, in stark contrast to the victims of the casinos, I believe that these gamblers in this disgusting business deserve to get burnt.

Similar to how the big Sporting Business model works.

Netball Aust, AFL, NRL, NBLA, CA etc encourage one to back a team, any team if we are honest. The ultimate goal is for their brand to flourish and provide employment for those in control of the Business (sometimes also referred to as sport). Sponsors and naming rights are key.

Should we expect any different from the business of politics. Between LGA’s, State and Commonwealth there’s a final in your area nearly every year. Date TBA. Sponsorships open to negotiation.

And the consequences.

Alternately, “a very important message from the sponsor”.

Apparently gambling is essential for the social fabric, health and well being of every Australian. Where would we be without the clubs pubs and pokies? For as long as politicians and parties accept support and donations from businesses that derive profits from gambling we will never know.

One source suggested Australian gambling was a $225 billion industry in 2019. It’s worth a read.

There are other on line sources of content. Many not unsurprisingly can lead to sites offering opportunities to gamble. Wikipedia seems the only safe bet.

How good is Australia? Apparently our style of poker machines enable the user to loose money faster than those in any other nation. World leading.

As mentioned above the permitted house edge (probability of a gain on any transaction to the house) is stupendous. Even if the number of machines stay the same, the harm to the community would be much reduced if that edge was reduced. This could be changed at the stroke of a pen as all the modern machines are configurable by software.

NSW first legalised poker machines in 1954? It’s now the power house of the Australian gambling industry, amongst other noted achievements. Is that Gold Standard?

A view from one who can claim first hand knowledge.

Apologies if the SMH paywall gets in the way. It usually permits a free read or two. The following is a short note from the article that highlights how it is.

NSW has more poker machines per capita than anywhere else in the world, outside of gambling destinations such as Macau. Pokies losses, which had been rising through the 1990s, spiked after Mr Carr’s liberalisation. Expenditure on the machines rose from $864 per head in 1996-97 to $1256 in 1999-2000, according to the country’s most comprehensive statistics on gambling.

Expenditure has since fallen to about $1000, but remains almost twice as high in NSW than in any other state.

If it were a state of origin contest, the biggest loser is hands down a sure bet.
