It might be a good idea but it does not come without problems. Even if only at long intervals have you tried getting a booking at Vicroads for example? In some jurisdictions bookings blow out worse than seeing a specialist surgeon! Each state is different with different road rules, another set of issues to consider. How nice it would be if Australian states could become homogenous for the many day-to-day pages of regulations.
