Unregistered Vehicle Permits UVP

Yes it would be good to get a breakdown of accidents involving unroadworthy vehicles in NSW and VIC to see if having regular roadworthy tests make a difference.

The argument that if something doesn’t affect me I shouldn’t care about it is is so wrong it doesn’t need any comment.

And yes I do have time on my hands as I’m retired. The vehicle I have noticed has a cracked windscreen and 2 bald tyres. This doesn’t affect me unless I happen to be the unlucky person he crashes into due to driving an unroadworthy vehicle. So I’m not sure I will not be effected by his vehicle.

Regards

A bit OT for here but worth a reply. If it becomes a discussion in its own right it should have its own topic.

It might be a good idea but it does not come without problems. Even if only at long intervals have you tried getting a booking at Vicroads for example? In some jurisdictions bookings blow out worse than seeing a specialist surgeon! Each state is different with different road rules, another set of issues to consider. How nice it would be if Australian states could become homogenous for the many day-to-day pages of regulations.

Some other options you may find worthwhile considering in pursuit of changing how it is.

The state/territory member of parliament’s local office will respond to phone calls/emails. Walking in off the street gives one an opportunity to talk to their counter staff. It can increase the likelihood your issue which they will note, and acceptance of any written plead will drift closer to the top of the pile.

Note in our area the state and federal members actively engage through the local private rag and newspaper. Letters to the editor occasionally generate a considered response. For more topical issues the local rag will sometimes run a low key feature. Raising the public profile, if only in one’s back yard offers the opportunity to personalise the issue with the local member.

Raising your concerns with the Choice Community - may not quite hit the sweet spot of a politician’s ambition. Getting your state/city mass media to grab the cause? The more traction there is from other opportunities the more likely it will be looked at with intent. As an RACQ member (Equivalent to RACV in Victoria) it’s common for road users to raise a wide range of concerns which appear in the monthly publication and on line. The more serious elicit a response from the organisation.

There are a variety of road user and safety focused organisations around the nation. Each offers a potential opportunity to raise your concerns with. How well they will listen or respond? The better one can communicate the concern/issue - including formally in every instance the more likely a positive response. I’ve found similar when approaching our local police. One needs to make the best use of the formal procedure for raising a concern or making a complaint. It’s more difficult for follow up direct enquires to be discarded with a file note.
