We often need a bit of help managing the cleaning of those heavy curtains or the upholstery of our favourite couch, or the stained carpet, or..so many jobs that need ‘professional expertise’, and so many cleaning companies that advertise online and make it difficult to choose. But also online there’s some guidance to be found about how to choose wisely and be safe (as much as it can be expected nowadays). I’ve gathered a few suggestions and I hope that others will add even more valuable advice.
Research the company
Verify credentials, check that there’s a physical address or an ABN (Australian Business Number).
Search the ASIC website (Australian Securities Investment Commission) if not registered it could be an overseas business.
Get a quote
Take note of how the booking is managed, no pressure or rushing, no avoiding questions..
Request a detailed quote: What services are actually included in the quote.
Give details of the job required so that the appropriate equipment and cleaning agents will be used.
Ask about the process.
Ask for confirmation of insurance and background checks of the personnel/cleaners that will be attending the job.
Get more than one quote.
Ensure the T&C are clearly understood.
Expect a clearly written policy of the steps to be taken if there’s any issues.
Ask about any conditions or requirements if the customer is not satisfied.
Review the T&C before paying.
If upfront payment is required, get detailed documentation about the service and the total cost. Consider paying by a method which offers chargeback options.
Document everything, keep records of conversations, the written total quote, payment receipts.
If things go very wrong report to a consumer protection agency or to the Police.
