Phillip Air Fryer

I contacted Phillips Australia to enquire about my Air Fryer Model HD9651/91 XXL (which on their website shows as discontinued), regarding the difficulty found in cleaning the Dome above the electric coil.
This is a common issue with all their Air Fryers and there is only one way of maintaining it clean after each use and that is with a damp cloth to squiz it behind the coil while is hot, as per the operator’s advice.
To me that is an OH&S issue as it can burn the user, the build-up of fat and grease above the coil could catch fire if not cleaned properly.
The coil cannot be removed by the user to allow access to the dome.
Phillips Authorised Service Centre does not carry out service cleaning of the appliance at all and there is a charge of 66 dollars just to look at it.
Considering the price of these appliances why can a simple coil be lowered to give access to safely clean the dome after use? Hope this information helps you to look into this issue and hope the choice community is aware of this issue.

Hi @Elias54, welcome to the community.

This is contrary to the user guide. Page 17 of the guide under cleaning states:

1 Press the power On/Off ( ) button to switch off the appliance, remove the plug from the wall outlet and let the appliance cool down.

Cleaning of the element should only be undertaken when the airfryer has cooled.

Philips has also prepared a useful video which shows users how to clean their airfryers. It is worth watching since you have a Philips airfryer.

It is worth noting from the video that to clean the element, the cooled airfryer is inverted to allow easy access and to see what one is doing.

Thank you for the response. I have watched the video and read the instructions manual when the purchase was made. My question to Phillips was as a manufacture company if they could improve the design of the Air Fryer to allow the coil to be lowered in a way that people with hand problems such as rheumatoid arthritis could clean the dome without the hassle of having to turn the unit upside down. There is no easy or practical access to the dome for cleaning. The authorised Phillips service centre provided the advice of cleaning it while is hot and that is not what the operating manual says and common sense should prevail at all times.
