Pedometers / step counters recommendations

I’m looking to buy a basic step counter/ pedometer just to count my steps. I do not want to have it connected to internet to just count steps.
I looked at Fitbit Inspire 2 as I got told I just set it up with the app & then don’t need internet just to count steps. Are cheapie cheapie ones any different eg. Omniwatch, Ryze?
I don’t have the membership to read the Choice reviews.
THANKS FOR ANY RESPONSES.

Pedometers are very cheap and plentiful. Those that clip onto the waist and just simply count steps. I think the current one I have was around $15 including postage from Amazon.

Those examples are digitally connected fitness trackers or smart watches. Substantially more expensive than a basic digital pedometer ($20) or a Choice digital online subscription. If your budget stretches that far? ($29.95 for 3 months)

Note the Choice reviews tend to only include better known and more popular consumer products. Consequently not every current brand and model may be included. Choice however does provided buying guides and general buying advice without the need to subscribe.

If you have a smartphone, it can be used as a pedometer. No additional cost to those who take their phone everywhere.

App Store (Apple) or Play Store (Google).

How reliable and any reviews?
Assume the star ratings and count of users is one way to sort the best. Although would it not also depend on the model of mobile? Especially if Android where there is more variation in hardware.

The same questions can be asked of basic pedometers.

We have used a pedometer in the past along with a smartphone and found the counts are similar (within about 10%). Don’t know which was more accurate as didn’t count the number of steps. In most cases a high level of accuracy isn’t important.

If one wants to know exactly how far they walked, a GPX tracker would be more accurate than a pedometer.

And the science indicates that smart phones are more accurate:
