Testing food for temperature before you eat has been a required skill since we lived in caves and ate around open fires. Then it was the fuel stove, then the gas or electric stove and now the microwave. Parents need to allow children to learn about hot things in the kitchen without causing major injury. A hot mouth or spilling hot soup is probably not the worst learning experience you will ever have but it is one you will not forget quickly. What is the alternative, forbid experimentation so they learn nothing?
