Why would anyone risk their health and safety by not buying a bottle of water on the airplane..
I wish it was, but not about to expect any change soon. Our water is only free when it is falling from the sky. Those not on the reticulated water grid know the true added costs of maintaining the collection gutters and pipework, that water storage tanks are not free nor are the household pump/s and ones choice of treatment for safe use. Alternately a water bore can cost $10k-$20k to drill with another $5k or more for power and pumping. That’s before one spends on storage and the household end.
It will be no surprise to share with all that we do not water our lawn or garden, and raised vege beds only when essential. Usage charges in addition to the fixed daily service charge Brisbane with Urban Utilities are between $4.50 to $5.55 per 1,000 litres. One way to put a cost on a long shower or watering the lawn.
I feel that ‘Opiniologist’ would be ‘cutting off their nose to spite their face’ as the saying goes. Yes, it would be nice to have free water, but your health comes before money. Water is on board, so stay healthy and buy a bottle!! Sorry Opiniologist, but that’s the top and bottom of the whole thing. You want water to stay hydrated?……buy a bottle.
There is a cost to airlines - weight costs money in fuel and carrying capacity. If something is free, people tend to waste it. Issuing 400 passengers with a 500ml bottle increases the weight of the plane by 200kg, selling to the few who want it means carrying less = less fuel / more passengers freight.
Airlines use 3D metal printing to save a few grams on seat belt buckles do it for long term gain. Saving 150kg (and the cost of buying in bottles, loading, clearing away) on each flight is important to their bottom line.
Can’t say I’ve ever been charged for water at cafe or restaurant in Australia. Perhaps I’m not frequenting the upper echelons of restaurants?
An example is a country restaurant I infrequently stop at in the Yarra Valley where they only have bore water unsuitable for drinking. Want water, buy a bottle.
The moral of this is you should not be flying. If you were supposed to fly you would have wings
Easy to forget the cost of terrorism, restrictions on carrying own bottle of water on board an airline came into effect after the 2006 plot to bomb a plane with liquids. It’s difficult to distinguish water from hydrogen peroxide or other chemicals, which could be used as explosives.
As usual, it’s the law abiding citizens that pay the price by having to go through measures to stop criminals.
Yes it was some time past. Have recently past through 6 different terminals domestic and OS. Noted there was no problem with clearing security carrying through empty containers/drink bottles. Refilling options varied, assuming one was happy with the occasional water fountains located on the departures side. Also noted that the airlines used had no issues with passengers bringing on board cold drinks/beverages to consume in flight (non-alcoholic of course).
interesting i was in some airports in europe last year
i think from memory was czech and turkey regional,
they take the water but terminals also do not offer public water filling stations so only purchase was available, luckily i was on full service flights so water was available onboard
