Just received an email alert from the ACCC Scamwatch service regarding what scammers are now doing to try to get access to your bank accounts.

This is nothing new, it has been going on for 2 years or more. Even the detail of posing as Telstra, Microsoft etc is not new. The frequency ebbs and flows, apparently it is on the rise again.

In the link above ACCC Deputy Chair Delia Rickard is quoted as explaining that "The old trick scammers used to use was to call people and say there was a virus on their computer that needed fixing but, in a new twist, scammers are now telling people they need their help to catch hackers.” The ScamWatch website also reports “a significant spike in these types of scams”.
