Australia delays introducing the ban on vaping products until next year.
It appears that the grubby tobacco industry has been lining the pockets of some Government backbenchers.
An article regarding vaping and drug use showing a huge increase in vaping in the last few years including many persons who have never smoked tobacco.
The headline seems to equate the rise in Cocaine use to vaping?? While Iâm sure you can vape cocaine I think the Vaping is more about legally available vaping products. Even the article has more confusion ie âMore young Australians are experimenting with vaping, even if theyâve never smoked cigarettes, but they are turning away from alcohol and illicit drugsâ but further down âIn fact, cocaine use was the highest rate it had been in almost two decadesâ. That seems to me to not mesh.

There is a program on SBS TV today at 3:00 PM titled âE-Cigarettes: Welcome Back, Big Tobaccoâ.
This overview in the TV guide is concerning.
âCould e-cigarettes be the answer to quit smoking? Some of those whoâve switched to this safer nicotine delivery device say yes, and Big Tobacco couldnât be happier. They are eager to move into the booming e-cig business. Will potential new regulations open the doors for a tarred industry toâ.
Whether the claim âSome of those whoâve switched to this âsafer nicotine delivery deviceâ say yesâ is merely incompetence by whoever prepared the TV guide or the program falsely claims thet vaping is safer than smoking, it is concerning.
I probably wonât get to watch it, but if anyone else does, perhaps they could advise the community if it appears to be above board or a promotion for Big Tobacco.
I donât smoke, I discourage friends from smoking, I wonât let them smoke in my house. But I would rather be in a room of cigarette smokers than vapers, because where I can tolerate one, I cannot tolerate the other. The vaping produces something that irritates my eyes and breathing to the point of being intolerable. I donât have asthma, and others with me donât experience any problem.
With the âpassive smokingâ affecting you, one can only imagine what it is doing to the smokersâ lungs.

For an informed debate people should keep an eye on the Senate Select Committee . . .
In fact, their report has just been released, makes for interesting reading, if you happen to have an interest.
The report is 261 pages. I suggest you direct us to the most important bits. How about you give us a potted summary in (say) 300-500 words and then some references to the parts we need to read if interested.
⊠tobacco is just another delivery vector for nicotine, perhaps that should be prescription only as well ![]()
Oz public health decided long ago that education not prohibition was the best way. It does seem to working if slowly. I am quite comfortable that a new product is restricted, this is consistent with treating it as a health problem not a moral failing and helps remove it from adolescent early experimenters.
The enforcement authorities of the world have lost every battle and campaign in the war on drugs, letâs not give them something else to fail at and something else for criminals to make a fortune on.
