MixerTaps

After the failure of a cheaper mixer tap at the flexible hot water connexion in a bathroom with consequent flooding and now needing a new mixer for the kitchen I thought I had better get a reliable one from Reece. I purchased an expensive Mizu one with the coiled chrome wire loop with a flexible chrome metal hose inside of the bathroom shower rose type that set me back $416.99 plus installation in Nov 2016 with a 7 yr warranty.
It lasted until 01/2020.when it got a leak in the hose inside the wire loop over the sink.Reece said they could not replace it as they could not get it anymore but swapped the part from another they had in stock which has been OK till now when it has failed in the same place so I am up for a new one again.
Do members think this is fair wear and tear for a high priced tap.

Has it failed where the seal is in the base of the tap, which allows the nozzle to turn, or in a part subject to movement?

If it is, it will be classed as wear and tear as over time the rubber wear outs. It is no different to washers/ceramic valves. These also wear out over time.

I had a problem with an Ono mixer purchased from E&S Trading in 2011.

I went formal and at the end of the day 10 years on E&S gave me reasonable credit toward another mixer. I bought a Blanco from them and it has been going flawlessly so far at 3 years.

I would never touch another Ono product. Bottom line is washers wear out. Expensive mixers that cannot be repaired or having fragile hoses or designs that repeatedly fail in the same manner do not have to be tolerated. Hold your ground and good luck.
