You are pretty close with your 2%. Arguably the most prestigious luggage manufacturer is Louis Vuitton. I’m not suggesting anyone here is silly enough to pay $8,000 for a suitcase, but what they produce might a guide to the prestige market at least. A quick check on their web site lists 34 spinners, 34 totes and 3 duffles. That puts duffles at about 4%. Just saying.
There again, I notice a much higher use of duffles by cabin crew. So, perhaps duffles are effective for frequent fliers and FIFO.
