What are the defects?
The fixing nuts which connect the exhaust downpipe to the catalytic convertor may not have been tightened to specification. The fixings may loosen over time, which may cause a hot exhaust gas leak into the engine bay.
What are the hazards?
If a hot exhaust gas leak occurs, this may cause localised heat damage and, if sustained, can lead to under bonnet smoke and a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk injury or death to vehicle occupants or bystanders.
What should consumers do?
Jaguar Land Rover will write to all affected owners and ask them to contact their preferred/authorised repairer as soon as possible to arrange a repair, free of charge.
