Have you negotiated a better insurance deal?

Hi, I’m a journo with News Corp and I’m doing a story on how consumers are shopping around to get better deals on general insurance - car insurance, home and contents, etc.

I’m looking for someone who has shopped around and saving money recently who would be happy to be in a photoshoot.

If you think you have a story to tell, reach out to me at [email protected]

Cheers,

Paul

Hey Paul , no photos but we had 6 policies with GIO this time last year now none/zero the price hikes they put out made staying with them untenable

We had been with GIO for over 20 years

As an example our House and Contents by changing companies we saved $1500.00 and actually got a better policy with a name brand insurer

As a sideline to your story look at the Emergency Services Levy on insurance only paid by people insuring but all and sundry can get access , bit unfair all should pay and I do have a tale to tell about that but not on here

insurance seems to be a losing battle, i ‘thought’ i negotiated a better deal with YouI

Competitor offer $400 i need you to beat that,

the agent disappears for 2 minutes ‘talking to a manager’ I already know the manager doesn’t exist its a marketing tactic to create the aura of effort and perception you are special beyond.

They return absolutely ask you to listen to and accept terms to commit to the contract straight away with an instruction simply to press 1, no guidance why i’m listening just that i need to press 1

in a 1 minute blurb of terms and PD recording you are committing to terms contractual liability for immediate payment of $500, I pressed 2 Don’t accept, sends you to the attendant, ‘Seems there is a technical issue’ dumps you back on the demand to press 1.

turns out they deliberately neglected to mention GST and Stamp duty and ‘processing fee’ in the YouI not really a ‘quote’ rounding up the sweet sounding $400 to $500

In my experience Youi is the insurance company of choice for those who want to be subjected to ridiculous time wasting phone calls and as often as not quotes that are on the high side, to be polite.

They are hit and miss on productreview. In spite of the ‘verified’ claims many of those posts seem sus based on the words/phrases used that reflect bots and ‘marketing support’ companies. It could just be the language of modern times, but…

I posted for a quote based on the form online, no warnings they didn’t email quote at all but called me straight away, and even after 20 minutes refused to email me a written copy, resorting to that contract that any consumer could easily miss when spitfire verbal and not calm review in written word

In the end YouI wasnt even competitve

$500 , Excess $2000

competitor

$380, Excess $500

Some years ago now but I advised Youi that I would not be renewing my insurance policy (House and contents) with them. They renewed the policy anyway with attendant charges.

Refund was given and policy cancelled after one phone call but the action of Youi in renewing the policy despite my advice said it all.

Work this out I got a price spread of $14000.00 on house and contents insurance with an additional 6 not even prepared to offer a quote , they are supposed to be insurance companies but those 6 want the cream and are not prepared to do what their name says
