Electric Scooters The Commuters friend - Not!

Queensland now regulates all small rideable powered mobility devices in a single regulated category. Maximum permitted speeds 12kph in footpaths and 25kph elsewhere the one, two or many wheeled machines are permitted to be ridden. There is a general 60kg maximum permitted weight without rider or any goods. The maximum speed of 25kph must be limited by the device and not the rider. Excludes e-bikes.

For anyone not too keen on an e-bike because you need to keep pedalling, and not so sure about standing up on a scooter with 2 bottle top like wheels some samples. Legality of use varies according to state/territory.

The Fiido Q1 is just one example - 250W (400W peak?) motor no pedalling required.

There is also a Fiido Q2 with dual motors and 1200W motor power.
Or more conventional styled - 400W rear motor.

The first 2 are in the Aussie market including one Sydney based store. I believe I’ve seen the Fiido Q2 on a Brisbane suburban train a few days prior. No way to know if it has been derated or the top speed locked to 25kph. Unlocked maximum speed is nearly twice that.

P.S.
No options for trainer wheels?
QLD is considering introducing RBT for riders in addition to existing penalties for failures to comply with the regulations.
