Electric kettle with no internal plastic

Hi

Trying to find a electric kettle that has no plastic internally. Many have plastic at the spout even if the rest is plastic free.

Thankyou

Hi

You could look for a Saki Luna, not sure they are sold as a 240 volt unit in Australia though.

Need to join for reviews and ratings but ‘Specifications’ will have the type of material used.

Electric - but different. Stove top kettles for gas or induction. There are numerous options. The design and materials vary, with metal spouts, bodies and lids the norm. Handles are typically heat resistant materials to make holding less of a risk.

Not difficult to source on line or in store, some examples:

We use a Raco SS product with our wood burning slow combustion stove, or gas cooktop when the power goes out.

Some options worth investigating further and readily available in Australia are:

The last three are reported as being plastic free internals here.

The first one is indicated as being plastic free internals on a couple of websites.

While the internals might be plastic free, other parts will likely contain plastics such as external parts and the electrics (e.g. insulation).

@aaa1983 pointed out that many kettles have some plastic parts, regardless of what the main body of the kettle is.

The specifications generally only mention what the main body’s made from, not the components of the lid, spout filter, boil sensor, etc. Images of the kettle online don’t usually show close-ups of the lid (open).

The only way to be certain it’s plastic-free is to inspect the kettle closely in a real store. Breville’s “Compact Kettle” might be OK – certainly doesn’t have a plastic-framed filter – but one would need to examine it to be sure the underside of the lid is metal only.

Our otherwise entirely stainless steel electric kettle has a plastic-framed ‘filter’ at the spout and a plastic-covered temperature sensor above the maximum water level (to detect boiling) … which recently began to disintegrate, dropping a few chunks of plastic into the water.

Agree. But also ‘specifications’ is a good way to start to narrow down the search :slightly_smiling_face:

What is your concern? I can appreciate not wanting plastic in the body area where the water boils, but what is your concern with a plastic spout?

If you want a totally metal kettle, perhaps you could look in op shops for an old fashioned stove top metal whistling kettle similar to those mentioned above.

Also as mentioned above, I doubt you will find an electric kettle with zero plastic. There may not be any visible plastic, but there may be plastic on or in the bottom for safety.

Only stove-top whistlers here, a stainless steel Baccarat kettle used on the induction hob, and also an old camping store unbranded SS kettle, both of which have no plastic on the inside.

The Lenoxx unit does come with a warning about the handle, it does get hot during use and it is recommended by the manufacturer that an oven mitt or similar is used to handle the kettle. Others you have mentioned appear to have plastic handles and so should not have the same handling problem.

I think it would be hard to find a completely plastic free product, even wiring is insulated with plastic, however the only requirement was that the internals of the kettle did not contain plastic (assuming that @AAA1983 means only the inside of the water vessel, spout, and lid). Ringing the business should be able to confirm the
absence of internal plastic.

We’ve seen that with one previous electric kettle and with another the internal plastic moulded spout screen also becoming brittle - shedding plastic.

Have you considered ‘Fellow Kettle’ - stainless steel internal.

Maybe try the Aarke Kettle Steel (Swedish design, China build), not 100% sure if this has a completely plastic free interior.
Or Ottoni fabbrica (Italian design and build) has three models, completely plastic free
Not sure if they offer global shipping.
