I was on the lookout for sustainable travel toys and another mom suggested Hey Doodle silicone activity mats. The brand claims its reusable products are “for eco-conscious parents” and “without an environmental footprint”. Yet, its reusable colouring mats come in a plastic bags and have no cloths to clean off the ink. Instead, the brand suggests to use disposable baby wipes!? These products are produced by the thousands so just imagine how many plastic bags and disposable wipes are added to our eco-system by using these “sustainable” products! In my research, I also came across a comparable product by a brand called Scribble Mat. Again, this brand professes to be eco-friendly and sustainable but the product is encased in a fake felt wrap - the worst kind of plastic you can get! I really hate brands that greenwash to make money but it’s even worse when retailers stock these shonky brands. It’s time they were all called out!
