Congratulations Fiona Guthrie and Dr Ken Harvey

We’d like to congratulate tireless consumer advocate Associate Professor Dr Ken Harvey, and CHOICE board member and longstanding consumer advocate, Fiona Guthrie for their awards in the Queen’s Birthday honours yesterday. Both were made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).

Fiona was a community legal centre volunteer in the 1980s and rose to head of Financial Counselling Australia in 2009. Her award recognises her decades of work helping Australians who are struggling to make ends meet.

Ken’s award recognised his contribution to public health thanks to his role in developing guidelines for the ethical use of antibiotics. In 2012 we also recognised Ken as a CHOICE consumer champion for his campaigning against shonky therapeutic goods and marketing claims, something he continues to do with great passion and impact.
