Choice doesn't like Firefox?

I couldn’t log in to Choice Mag this arvo; had to ring the office. After a PW re-set, got in but on Chrome - with my old PW. Anyone know whether there’s a setting which allows log-in on Firefox?
Thanks.

I’ve been using Firefox with the Choice site for quite some time, without any problems. Just now, I did have to wade through identifying motorcycles in three sets of Captcha, but it let me in then.

What happened when you tried to log in and failed?

Never-ending Captcha. Tried a few times today before ringing but no luck. Hadn’t been on for a while and no prob in the past, so maybe it’s not Choice but my 'puter?

Didn’t even get as far as pics of motorcycles, buses or anything, and none of the ID stuff on Chrome; just logged straight in. I prolly don’t mean captcha but the circly thing going around and around and around.

I have had a similar experience a year or more ago, with a different browser – couldn’t get past Captcha. If I recall correctly, it was a problem with Choice’s Captcha, but it wasn’t affecting everyone.

Could be that’s happened again?

Try clearing cookies and data to see if this solves the problem (it could be a case of corrupted site data which can occur from time to time):

Do Clear cookies for any website, otherwise you will be logged out of every website that you use and also remove all website setting for any website that you visit. Clearing the Choice website will require one to log in again.

Maybe that’s it. Will have a go tomorrow and let you know.
Thanks and out.

This site and the main CHOICE site have had some issues lately. The circling arrow is an indication of one of those. Many supposedly are about a site under a heavy load. The CHOICE IT staff have been putting in fixes, but there are still some occasions that we all get errors. Errors such as 504, 404, random page refreshes, if editing there may be messages about the post already being edited and for the user to retry or ignore (safe option is to ignore not retry), all of these may be seen as well as others.

CHOICE uses Cloudflare to filter traffic to reduce risks of Distributed Denial of Service attacks and to filter out many bad actors on the web. Some of the Cloudflare processes can impact on timely access to the site.

One of the problems has in the past has been that Cloudflare assigns IP addresses, before all moderators knew about the use of Cloudflare some spammers were blocked and at the same time IP addresses that they used were blocked. This has lead to some people being unable to enter the site for a little while as they retained the IP address assigned by Cloudflare but here on this site the IP was blocked. Most of these blocked addresses have been now unblocked, though a small number appear to still remain. Often a small wait before retrying to enter or a change of browser will lead to the issue of a new IP address by Cloudflare that is not likely blocked. Those errant blocks are being tracked down and removed but it does take time.

Just to reiterate fixes are being rolled out, they do take time though to gauge the effect on the sites (both of them) usability.

The other thing to check is you are running the latest version of Firefox. Usually Firefox should do this automatically, but, it doesn’t hurt checking:

Could also be an add-on.

Update and as suggested: cache and cookies cleared (twice); Firefox updates automatically but also done manually; CCleaner run; add-ons checked.

Tried three times this morning. First one got me to Captcha but after four lots of bicycle pics, I gave up. After that, I didn’t even get to Captcha.

Tried Chrome again, was acknowledged as human but that was that. Chrome probably only worked yesterday because I used the link emailed to me by Choice.

If there are indeed probs with Choice’s website for some of us, I’m happy to wait a day or so and see if it’s fixed. I was only browsing rather than needing info.

Another thing that might be getting you is Malwarebytes Premium that would affect all your browsers. If you run that or anything similar try disabling it. eg. The MWB ads/trackers protection breaks many things, site dependent.

The last thing to try is to completely uninstall Firefox and its data files and reinstalling it. We have had to do this with Chrome in the past when multiple updates corrupted the browsers operation.

Not running MWB or any of those. Am wondering, though, if it could (also) have something to do with the latest W10 update. Since then, I’ve had some other probs, including Invalid Configuration on start-up. I’ve run Troubleshooters and the thorough F5 check (name?) from the Invalid Configuration screen, and all was well.

A bit drastic just to get on to Choice’s website. :slightly_smiling_face:
I’ll think about that but Chrome won’t let me on, either.

Firefox, Edge, and Chrome (and browsers based on these) may also have content settings that are interfering with this site (and others). Often now as standard many browsers block a number of trackers and pop-ups.

There are instructions that can easily be found online that will guide a user to set trusted sites for all browsers.

I have included a link to the official Firefox instructions below

As @cava seems to have little issue with getting on the Community, it would seem something in particular with the main CHOICE site. Setting it as a trusted site may ease the issues being experienced, especially if the browsers are blocking certain elements of the site such as the Captcha process.

Just checked and Choice was already a trusted site.

A techie from Choice must be reading this, because I’ve just logged straight in without any Captcha or checking if I was human. Twice - and on Firefox!
I’ll try it again tomorrow but with some luck, this is now solved. Thanks to you all for taking the trouble of replying with possible solutions.

Some info about Captchas and ways to avoid some of the issues. The workarounds don’t always work everytime. Sorry in advance for the advertising that will appear on these pages.

Cloudflare does use Captcha as part of its arsenal against bots and attacks. There is a browser add on that is designed to assist with sites protected by Cloudflare

For Chrome

For Firefox
