Careless Australia Post Parcel Delivery

I’ve lost count on how many times Australia Post delivers parcels and just dump parcelsat the front of property and don’t even try to knock when we are plainly home. I believe the standard is “will attempt to deliver the parcel to you or, if no response, leave it in a safe place’

Australia Post couriers adopt a universal cavilier attitude, as there is always no attempt to hand deliver and parcels are left in clearly visible (and therefore unsecure) locations.

Is AP accountable to this CGAS practice?

You’re not alone in having had problems with parcel delivery, @ThirdWorldMobileServ. See this existing topic:

From that topic and other discussions of delivery experiences, service quality seems to depend very much on the people who handle deliveries for any given area.

In some areas, service is always reliable. In other areas the attitude seems cavalier, as you describe.

Which suggests that the parent courier companies (including Australia Post) aren’t closely monitoring service quality in all the areas they cover and/or don’t always follow up on negative feedback about the service.

Yes, thanks to my stroke affected brain, I’d forgotton my particpation in that other thread. The only variation in services has been when delivery is contracted out to a local who actually cares. Unfortunately in ALL cases involving AP emplyeees, no attempt was made to check if we were home which as a retiree is the case in the vast majority of circumstances.

We recently had an AP delievery where the employee didn’t knock. I assume he was an AP employee because he had a AP labelled polo shirt on. I only knew he made a delivery becuase I saw hi running past ourt front windows. The parcel turned out to be someone else’s - correct addressed to the other party.

Next time we receive an unnotified AP delivery I’ll lodge a complaint via https://helpandsupport.auspost.com.au/s/delivery-issue - but don’t hold up much hope.

We live 35km out of town and recently had a change of postie delivering to this area. Liz, our previous postie would bring parcels that wouldn’t fit into our bar fridge letter box ~400m up the driveway to the house. New postie leaves parcels in the long grass near the gate, irrespective of the weather.

My wife expressed her opinion on one of their ongoing “How did we do?” surveys.

Years ago I had issues with our deliveries and went to the local PO. The agent told me how their system worked. It could be different now but then if a postie had 3 substantiated complaints, they were let go for performance reasons. Complaints had to be made formally though the central web site channels.

Since my complaint (~ decade ago) my service has been very good to impeccable although as a retiree they do not knock, just leave my parcels in my safe place and run, and I am happy for that. My delivery cue is usually the email or SMS ‘has been delivered’ message.

Signature required? That is an issue with the sender setting that; some do not accept authority to leave :expressionless: When required my posties have waited their appointed time at the door for me to appear.

Auspost has been my preferred service for years now, with sendle being a close second. Aramex raised their game in the past year but their contract couriers do not read labels where to leave deliveries, they just dump and run - repeated ‘complaints’ have yet to caused a label to be read even though my ‘safe place’ is closer and easier to their truck than my front door.

I think you all must be wrong as the Senior management at Auspost just got a collective 6 Million dollar bonus for doing a good job

Now if the deliveries were as shoddy as you detail they would not be eligible for said bonus unless ???

One truism is that many companies operate on the principle that any single person can be doing a great job against their KPI and should be suitably recognised even if the organisation is failing.

If the KPIs are wrong a CEO could get a large bonus even if the company is failing where it faces its customers. That is a problem at the board level.

Absolutely Phil, or KPIs are just never measured.

I personally prefer to have Australia Post deliveries because they, unlike most other delivery companies, give me a 2 hour window for delivery.

I do use the Australia Post app and have long had a MyPost account so I get notified and can track parcels easily.

I once had a problem where a parcel was left outside with no attempt to contact me. I complained about that and have not had any repeats.

It’s a well known problem: the Aus Post complaints site even has a tick box for this issue. I spoke to my postie a couple of times and then he agreed to ring the bell and was thereafter very friendly. Sadly he retired recently.

Hey Phil T , when things go well everybody jumps on the band wagon however when things go bad it is only Senior management at Auspost who get a bonus

Now the old cliche about where the buck stops does not apply at Auspost because if it did the bonuses given to the 8 top management people not only this year but also previous years should be repaid because they were taken under false pretences

I’ve had AusPost throw a 20kg Powerstation onto front porch - all recorded by doorbell and Floodlight 360 Cam - when I asked agent why he threw it (as I had to sign for delivery) he coudln’t answer why - I told him all recorded, asked his name and advised if any problems would take it up with Auspost. Luckily no damage

Our post lady is fantastic, her and her husband have delivered mail for years in our area, I know they have to bid for the contract every few years. I have the auspost app which tells me when and where they leave it, they take a photo of where it’s been left and it’s visible in the app which I think means Auspost can also see it and monitor the couriers. We have a box by the door that auspost use for parcels. They don’t always ring the bell which is a camera but they leave our parcels in the box which we are happy with. Other couriers leave them on the box or behind the flower bed, with the exception of one excellent delivery company Team Global Express, they always ring the bell and if it’s to be signed for and we aren’t there they return to depot. They never leave it if it’s to be signed for and we aren’t in to sign it. Can’t fault there service.

However this week StarTrack delivered 4 boxes for my son which were very expensive. All four left by the door, no one was in, the boxes were covered in yellow stickers saying under no circumstances to be left without customer signature. We did not sign for them!!!

Auspost in our area are good as are Team Global Express but can’t say the same for star track which I know is owned by aus post.

My beef is with suppliers who refuse to send to PO boxes (that’s you Telstra) or refuse to send via Australia Post. Couriers and freight companies that leave distinctive parcels in full view of the street should be sacked.

I have the same beef. It absolutely annoys me that I can’t have parcels delivered to my P O box in Kingaroy but they end up at Nanango P O for collection. Also we have a postie that jams mail into the handles of the rubbish bin. OK if not windy. I don’t always bring in the rubbish bin on the day. If there is a parcel it gets put beside the letterbox which is on the roadside. Then they take a photo to tell you where it is. A lot of use if you are away. Because we live out of town the one courier service will not deliver. Text and collect.

We live out of town, and out postie is very friendly, obliging and always leaves parcels in a designated place - she toots the horn when she stops in the driveway. Best service ever and the neighbours say the same.

Welcome @Vic54

So do we and have good service with our AP postie (bike deliveries). Courier services still vary although the AP/Startrack drivers have even reliable over recent years. Possibly due to the increased demand from other residents along our road for home deliveries increasing familiarity. AP have been reasonably reliable with advance notice of tracked deliveries. Assumes the sender takes the initiative.
