Car Bumper and Trim Restorer

Can anyone recommend a long lasting Bumper and Trim Restorer, I’m using Turtle Wax at the moment and it lasts about 2 washes

Autoglym or Mothers perhaps. We use Meguiar’s but not sure if it is still sold or not. If ever concerned about yellowing headlight covers, the Meguiar’s Plastx we find is great, though others also produce similar products that I’m sure do a similar job.

I don’t think any product that is like the Turtle Wax or Meguiar’s are going to outlast a couple of washes. They are not meant as a permanent solution. Once the initial finish is lost due to wear and tear, it is only a cosmetic fix with these types of products.

If really concerned about the look, then perhaps getting an acrylic clear coat applied would be more lasting but would be more expensive.

Look for a ‘ceramic’ product such as

‘Ceramic’ products are not all the same but the most expensive is not always the best but the good ones are going to be among the more costly. In my experience they last at least 6 months in the first instance, and after a few applications they build a thin layer that helps keep the surface looking nice for longer.

Ask your auto supply shop for a recommendation. They sell ‘amateur’ products through to semi-pro or even pro. Getting the surface prepped and cleaned properly is very important for these to work as expected.

We use it but it doesn’t last as long for us as 6 months, mind you our usual car around “town” is about 11 years old and is outside a lot. I wouldn’t say our finish lasts more than about a month and a half. Interior it lasts a long time though.

I’ve been using Meguiar’s trim detailer products for years and have found both types deliver the perfect finish for interior and exterior black plastic surfaces. However, I’ve noticed that the Trim Detailer tends to leave greyish-white spots when exposed to rain and allowed to dry, which are difficult to remove. Because of this, I only use Ultimate Protectant for exterior surfaces and interior door trims—especially since they can be exposed to rain when entering or exiting the vehicle. It lasts through several hand washes after application, making it a reliable choice.

Hope this helps

Bowden’s Own - Mr Black

Lasts about 12 months and a nice natural finish, not too shiny.
They also do a kit that includes all the application tools and is made by an Australian company. :+1:t3: :+1:t3:
