Buying electrical goods for solar

We live off grid and in a rural part of Australia. We are now on our second fridge/freezer after 10 years. Does anyone have any thoughts about brand or style of fridge that works best. We have been told that the way the electricity works has caused the previous fridge to stop working

Assuming that was well informed advice. How was the way electricity works used to explain the fridge failure - if at all?

It may be helpful to share some details of your fridge that failed and off grid electrical setup. Was it supplied as a package by a local or recognised specialist? A alternate solution may be in changing how the “electricity works”. Especially considering if the off grid supply has caused the fridge to fail it may also be likely to cause other electrical powered items to fail.

If the power supply is causing problems, such as low voltage causing motor overheating and shorter life, it would be better to fix the regulation problem with the inverter than look for special appliances.

I would get expert help. Firstly to test the power supply to see if it is outside spec, secondly to explain what is going on and thirdly to advise on the best solution if that is the problem.

What inverter are you using? Modified sine wave, or even worse, square wave inverters, can cause havoc with some electric motors.
Using a good quality pure sine wave inverter should cause no problems with any standard electrical equipment.
Our fridge, well over 30 years old, and in use on my off grid system for 16 years, is still performing well.
