Budget Direct are not giving a refund for a policy cancelation even though it runs until August this year!
Budget Direct should have outlined cancellation policies when the roadside service was originally taken out. This would have been provided during the purchase process as part of the PDS .
Some roadside service providers don’t not give pro-rata refunds for unused time. Instead they will rollover remaining service to a new vehicle, with an adjustment of the premium (if a higher service level is taken out).
I agree but I would have thought I had an option to cancel as my new car comes with roadside assistance.
Looking at the Budget Direct website, it can be cancelled. Refunds are only provided during a 21 day cooling off period.
As roadside service cost isn’t all that significant, it is likely the cost of processing and issuing a pro-rata refund is greater than the refund amount. Hence, refund isn’t given.
Roadside assist is usually sold per annum end of story. Some insurers (AAMI for one) will refund unused time if a new car is insured with them to replace the old.
They do it as goodwill not because they are obligated unless it is stated otherwise in the PDS.
Never make an assumption.
Also remember to check the details of the roadside assistance your car comes with. Sometimes it will come with restrictions like limited coverage, a requirement to only have the car serviced at the dealer or a restriction that the car can only be towed back to the dealer.
