Budget car hire

Received a refund from Budget after complaining to them after car drop-off. They had not disclosed in the documentation received upon reserving the vehicle online that a one-way fee could be charged, nor was it mentioned in the buried terms and conditions. (Pickup Melbourne, drop off Sydney). This charge to my CC was a 40% increase on the original charge. I was all set to take this complaint to a consumer advocate body on the grounds that not only was a one-way charge not prominently displayed, it was simply not disclosed.

Ensure you check the charged items on your tax invoice from car rental companies after drop off against the items they declared would be charged upon reservation, and complain if something new appears that wasn’t stated up front. They can’t do this, it’s a breach of Aust Consumer Law.
