Bitcoin/Cryptocurrency Scams

Only in their media release. Rod Sims has been an active ACCC Chair engaging with parts of the media after media releases are issued. Some of the wording quoted by the ABC is different to that which appears in the media release, which could have resulted from an additional interview.

It is concerning if what is alleged is in fact the case. It will be action worth following.

I am seeing more of ads that link to https://yuan-paygroup.com/ A variation of the same kind? Googling if it is legit comes up with https://blog.ifwglobal.com/blog/scam-alert-yuan-pay-group
Apparently it started last year. I searched for ‘yuanpay’ or ‘yuan’ in the ACCC website and there’s nothing there.

Whether it’s Bitcoin or another product these types of fake adds are not about to go away anytime soon.

Our community had been discussing adverts misusing celebrity images and content for many years. Just two of many.

Just wow.

I am not surprised by this at all, so at the end of the day, there will probably be no CFO or anyone of that level, so there’s no blame to be put anywhere. I imagine, was their thinking, when the ship went down. You just can’t trust anything or anyone & that is just a very sad state to live in. Especially if you didn’t grow up in tech generation. Ah the good old days😁

If your only contact with a company is in the virtual world then it is much harder to verify, and trust should less readily be given.

One of the issues that can be addressed via the government’s Director ID measures is that a company’s directors do have to exist in the real world and do have to have known, real identities. Of course that only applies to Australian companies. If you choose to do business with overseas companies (or indeed non-existent companies) then you take on extra risk.
