Batteries ANKO High Powered

Greetings all, Recently Target (and presumably KMART) have introduced High Powered AA batteries (18 for $7.50). They look to me to be alternatives to (the triple the price) Duracell’s Optimum (not to be confused with Duracell’s SIMPLE, which are their lowest level, budget batteries). Has Choice compared the High Powered ANKO to Duracell Optimum batteries? If not, is it on the agenda?

Not that I can find but Choice reviewed the Anko (regular) Alkaline ($6.50) version in the Disposable Battery Review (2022) - subscriber locked.

@BrendanMays, any information if or when this review will be updated?

Thanks for the reply. I was not aware of that review, but in any event, I am keen to determine if the High Powered batteries are as good as (or how good when compared to) Duracell. I bought a pack of the High Powered but not opened the pack as yet. Thanks again for your speedy reply.

While Choice hasn’t reviewed disposable batteries recently, you are welcome to post your experience of these batteries within the community. Others might be interested in your thoughts.

The product/performance descriptions of AA and similar batteries owe more to marketing. High Powered does not necessarily mean higher/greater capacity. IE longer lasting or longer life. Although at least one brand uses these terms to leave it open to the purchaser to believe their product has a higher/greater capacity?

It would be exceptionally valuable if Choice could test a selection of the Alkaline chemistry AA batteries and note how they perform relative to the marketing, IE “puffery”, used in promotional material. Science and chemistry suggests the differences in total energy capacity does not vary sufficiently between similar products to justify the differences in price (value) in many applications.

If there is a measurable difference some may perform better when more heavily drained. When more lightly loaded for any brand the performance differences may be insignificant.
