Barossa Fine Foods

Barossa Fine Foods, a trade-marked food business, has its headquarters and factory in Elizabeth North (a northern suburb of Adelaide, SA), and none of its eight shops are in the Barossa Valley. (Store Locations — Barossa Fine Foods)

It doesn’t even source most of its ingredients from the Barossa. Only one of the seven sources listed on its website (Farmers — Barossa Fine Foods) - Lofflers’ pig farm at Truro - is in the Barossa.

So shonky to trade off an unrelated region’s international reputation for food products like this. Reminds me of the ugg boot saga.

Happens all the time.

There was (is?) a gin factory on Sydney’s northern beaches that advertised as being Manly Gin or Manly Golden Beaches Distillery (or something similar) I forget.

They had luverly shots of Manly beach down the promenade and all the beach culture in their advertising; girls in bikinis, fine food, sparkling sands, surfing, bright cocktails, Norfolk Island pine trees, smiling crowds of the beautiful people, etc. It was all about class, the obvious idea was that they were classy and sophisticated too.

About the only part of all that which was real was the gin and the scantily clad girls. They were actually in the industrial area of Brookvale in amongst the car detailers, cheap floor coverings and brothels.

Yeah, but at least that’s close to Manly !!

Sounds like a variation on the champagne, feta, etc place of origin argument. Maybe Barossa farmers should be claiming the name, as the European farmers are?
