Anyone know what's up with lime prices?

They’re like 3 dollars each right now in Melbourne and most supermarkets don’t seem to have many, almost as much as avocados!

Where are limes $3.00 each?

Even Coles, who are always the most expensive, have packs of 5 for $8.00.

Can you use lime juice instead? (Available in the large supermarkets.)

Thanks for the report @tommunist. If anyone else spots any overpriced limes, please let us know.

Yeah, lime juice has been the go-to. The prices have been high in Melbourne at coles and woolworths. They don’t appear to have availability for limes right now on their websites. Looking at a cross-section of grocers in my area though, they are around 3 or more dollars each right now.

It seems very odd that Coles in Melbourne does not currently have any fresh limes in stock.

Coles websites show them available in Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide & Darwin at $2.00 each, Perth at $2.50 each and Hobart at $1.80each.

If you want to pay for postage, can send you a small box as our tree is loaded with them at the moment.

The high costs are possibly driven by demand and supply. With the drought in the Riverina, Murray Valley area, which could be Melbourne’s main source of limes, the supply may be low increasing demand. Other cities may source from other growing regions where supply may still be okay.
