Android Enjoyed troubles

Oh yes, most definitely! I purchased an Apple iPhone 8 Plus from Android Enjoyed on 26 December 2017, patiently waited for delivery until cancelling on 9 February 2018 and being then told my refund would take up to 25 working days. Here I am, some 14 weeks later, no refund issued and no response to any emails I have sent. The contact phone numbers are all disconnected and they no longer have a presence on Facebook. Had I known that this company was perceived to be ‘dodgy’ I obviously would not have made the initial purchase and been nearly $1100 out of pocket… why is this company still allowed to operate in Australia?

Hi @lakrise, that’s a really troubling experience with Android Enjoyed - especially considering it’s quite a bit of money involved. You’re right about their Facebook, although the website is still live. At this stage, one option to getting your money back would be to ask your bank to issue a chargeback.

If decide to go ahead with further action, please let us know how you go.

Hi @larkrise48, this must be quite distressing for you as the amount is significant.

It appears to be based on Hong Kong with a website which may indicate it is an Australian company…The website states “Android Enjoyed is an online tech and gadget store in Australia. …We utilise our existing distribution channels to deliver new and refurbished products from our Hong Kong distribution centre directly to your door. … Android Enjoyed sources stock from international markets…All international stock are suitable for use in Australia and comes with any necessary adapters.

As @BrendanMays has indicated, see if you can still get your bank to do a chargeback, even when the transaction occurred late last year.

The ACCC also has information about some methods to seek remedies from online companies based overseas…

To be able to contact the relevant Office of Fair Trading/Consumer Protection Agency where the company is based, one needs to be able to confirm where the company is actually based. This can be difficult to determine when all they have limited information available. It may be worth posting on social media to see if anyone has received a purchase from Android Enjoyed, to see if the despatch information included in the parcel has return address details.

If the company is based in HK, it may be difficult communicating with the Consumer Protection Agency in HK as they will have a different native tongue to your own. If you have any friends who speak Cantonese, they may be able to assist to have any correspondence in English and translated to Cantonese. I wouldn’t rely on Google Translate or other electronic translators as they can have difficulties with more specialised language, such as they which may exist when making a specific complaint.

Also, even though it is too late in your case (this is for other who may read this), it is critical to carry out a detailed search in relation to online businesses which don’t have a verifiable business address (and/or ABN/ACN) in Australia. Usually, others may have had difficulties before you and this may provide evidence that the prices they offer may be too good to be true or highly unreliable. In relation to Android Enjoyed, the SMH had this article in 2016:

I now take the approach unless I am 100% sure about a online business for significant/major purchases (major being >$50) and with the business being located potentially overseas with potential limited avenues to resolve problems should something go wrong, I avoid them.

Thank you for all the information. I will see if Citibank have any luck retrieving my money (they are currently investigating it). Android Enjoyed are still selling online too… no ethics whatsoever it seems!

I managed to get an ACL repair on an LG Phone outside of their 1 year warranty period. I had assistance from Consumer Affairs Victoria and had to make it clear that I was prepared to go to VCAT if necessary. It was a lengthy process. The phone was finally sent to Hong Kong and returned, fixed, in good time. The fault was a known issue with this model phone.
There is (faint) hope yet, good luck to my fellow member.

As a general rule, the more well-known a seller, the less likely they are to scam you like this.
You can order a 64GB iPhone 8 directly from Apple @ $1079 with free postage, and get delivery within a couple of days.

Not surprising, but validating …

Your question reminded me of this The Checkout episode.

Probably this episode as well :). Sorry I just love this show.

Sorry for the delay in responding… Thankfully the chargeback system worked and I did finally receive a full refund on 31st July. They certainly took their time about it and needed my credit card company to issue documents for the refund despite them having all the records of my purchase and the cancellation. I’ve learned a valuable lesson with all the worry this engendered.

That’s great news.

It also looks like Android Enjoy (and other companies under the same parent) won’t be around to trap others…

Great news! Thanks for the update

Android Enjoyed’s rating on Trip Advisor pretty much sums it up.

It is even worse than its sister company, Camera Sky.

The other sister company, Klukkur, has 2 bad out of 3 reviews.

Android Enjoyed and Camera Sky definetly won’t be enjoying this news.

We were glad to see some fines handed out. I know that CHOICE made several complaints to Fair Trading about the company.
