I’m looking to buy a new top load washing machine and have always had an agitator. Most new ones now have an impeller. Are they better? I keep seeing comments about clothes being very tangled. Is there special ways to wash clothes or any hints if buying a machine within impeller?

I’m a top loader person and my current machine is the first without an agitator. I chose this because of frustrations with large items like sheets, blankets and pillows that would either wrap around the agitator or make the machine lop-sided. The big bowl is great but yes, trousers and jumpers tend to get tangled together. I find that I have accumulated a large variety of wash bags in all shapes and sizes to make up for this. Adjusting for that, the tangles are in line with top loaders that have an agitator.
