Accuracy of food advertising

After travelling to Japan I was pretty amazed at how everything was very similar to advertising. It seems that food on the packaging is very similar to the actual food sold.

It is illegal for the food not to appear to look the same as the food shown on pakaging.

So how to fast food outlets get away with this in Australia, most fast food providers seel food that does not appear like the photo promoting the product, and i belive they use all sorts of props and take hours to make 1 photo, maybe marketing people have a bit to answer on this point.

Japanese food models are famous for their accuracy and photos on menus have to be fairly accurate or the diners would have difficulty understanding what was on order. I worked with many Japanese and got a few insights into our respective dining cultures. As a gross generalisation Japanese menus are generally not always explicit enough for tourists or locals and the images make up for that.
