Reading all this I’m very glad we have kept our 15 year old Toyota 4WD! They can keep all their so called ‘smart’ technology.

For sure that’s true but, at the end of the day, that car was sold to the buyer claiming to have this functionality and so, if it suddenly no longer works, that is a legitimate consumer issue.
It isn’t always the fault of the manufacturer, and it isn’t always something that the government should reasonably intervene in, but it should be looked at. It is one aspect of the wider problem with big ticket items where there is suddenly either a total or major or minor loss of functionality.
I have not seen an EV’s Owner’s Manual, so I’m not sure whether it covers maintenance and repairs. A Workshop Manual would be most helpful, not to do the work, but to visualise how long a task takes and to know whether the charges are fair.
Only basics such as fluid topping up, jacking the car, repairing a tyre (no spares in most) etc. For most things it is suggested taking it to an authorised repairer.
That’s secret company business! I guess aftermarket workshop manuals might eventually appear
