Dishwasher powder contains quite a bit of sodium carbonate which will corrode aluminium.

I hand wash all our sharp knives with a micro fibre cloth/swabber (Enjo brand designed to remove grease & dirt, which can contain yeasts/bacteria/viruses) and cold water.

Yes, I prefer hand washing. As the household sharpener of sharp knives I probably take best care of the blades, sadly. Thanks for your replies.
