The bottom line is that you must self-consume. With the increase in electricity costs, it makes it more viable, not less, to install solar - providing that you self-consume.

A corollary is that, in simple terms, there is no point installing excess generation capacity. The payoff from selling excess generation is declining precipitously and may, at peak times, become zero or negative.

Your ability to self-consume (ignoring a battery) depends on your flexibility to time shift consumption e.g. to carry out activities that consume a lot of power at the peak of the day and/or to schedule those activities using built-in or external timers.

As the previous post suggests, there are additional considerations. This post is looking at it only from an economic perspective of the individual household - and ignores considerations such as independence or resilience (reliability).
