Remember the Clipper Chip? Protecting our right to Encrypt

As always, Mr Schneier is spot on. We might ‘need’ these laws because ‘paedophiles’ and ‘terrorists’ - but what about when every other country on Earth looks at Australia’s lead? China, Russia, Saudi Arabia… Australia has set an incredibly poor example that if left uncorrected will lead to a less secure world.

And for anyone who’s interested, he has a great blog - and a post in it about the ridiculous censorship of the Cybercon. But wait… that’s not all the attempted censorship of Cybercon!

It’s like these people have never heard of the Streisand Effect!

I think most of us realised that they wouldn’t - the only surprise is that Labor is making any noise at all about it.

No surprise at all they didn’t get amendments. Agreeing to something that wasn’t safe to begin with showed a total lack of foresight on the ALP’s part. If they didn’t agree then they could have stopped the Bill, and what they got wasn’t even about changing the Law it was an agreement to look at amendments. Looking and doing are two different things. The LNP do have inquiries running so they are looking at it as they agreed to.
