Headtorch short-lived

It would be nice though if things were built to last that and more though.

They used to be when technology was simpler. I have an incandescent Petzl head torch from the 1980s. It still works well even though it chews through batteries, isn’t overly bright and the strap elastic is no longer elastic. It is a simple wired loop with a manual switch (which comes on when the lens is screwed out).

Modern LED headlights are very different. Most have circuit boards with resistors, voltage regulators, current regulators to protect the LED chip…and fancy inclusions and electronic switches (such as for flashing). More electronics means more to go wrong and more difficult ro fix.

l wish l still had my old Petzl, they were the go to headlamp for landbased game fishing 40 yrs ago
