Electricity Price Increases

A day is a long time in the NEM (National Electricity Market) and the electricity industry.

How opaque or transparent the process, and how did we get there, the following situation sums up much of what has gone wrong:

To consider are the roles of Government and responsible bodies EG AEMC, AEMO, NER, ACCC. There are also various industry lobby groups. Our elected leadership is clearly divided on the way forward. Pity the consumer?

There are several topics across the community considering some of the issues. Where to next @AER_CRG?

One State Response.

Not very opaque when some Federal politicians whose families have coal interests continue to push their coal agendas.

Meanwhile, back in the real world.

There are different visions of the real world?

The rule change which all but the AEMC are supporting opens a pathway to increase the costs of grid storage, relative to always available generation.

The Energy Security Board (ESB) has also recommended additional market payments to generators for available capacity.

How likely both decisions combined will prolong fossil fuel sourced energy and add to the cost to supply?

Note:
The rule change may find favour beyond the AEMC, including with several of the stated aims of the Federal Govt formulated ESB,

- work alongside government schemes which are delivering on their policy commitments including emissions reduction

- provide clear signals for timely and efficient investment to deliver reliable, secure, and affordable electricity for consumers.

Will this cause a rush to home batteries?
Australian households consume 25-30% of total electricity generated annually. Those most able to opt off the grid, are the more financially able and early adopters. They are also likely the households with the greater demands with larger homes, pools etc. Any exodus will risk leaving the grid to those less financial capability to prop up a smaller customer base of lower consumption users. Such a death spiral is more likely to hurt than save?

All is not lost, assuming the community is consulted.

Perhaps we missed the window to have a say?
