All is needed is the infrastructure to support it. Green hydrogen is possible, transport and storage is possible (using hydrogen compounds that readily release hydrogen gas) and hydrogen (ICE or fuel cell) vehicles are possible.

The US proposes to raise EV tax credist to USD $12,500 per vehicle.

Meanwhile, back in Australia, the Federal Government proposes to do nothing as always.

If one has disposable funds that under normal circumstances you could not spend in your lifetime and you desire more attention what should one do?

You can spend it on unlikely construction programs, buying a seat or two in the parliament, a new trophy wife (well maybe Clive hasn’t got that much) or frivolous appeals to the high court.

Why not? Not everybody likes wagyu steak or copi luak or could consume enough to make a dent in such a fortune - even his Cliveness. And if you did spend it on comestibles who would know? The point is not to have it or to spend it but to be noticed, you have to be noticed! Potlatch is practised in Oz.

So is considering taxing electric powered vehicles based on distance traveled as they don’t attract fuel excise on the electric mileage.

To be fair all hybrid vehicles also use less fuel because of the benefits of battery power. But these are not included.

I recon it’s a great topic, perhaps enough to stand on it’s own. The average motorist pays too much and the average Truckie too little. The motorist clubs have said this often, the road user charges are not fair. It does not matter what the alternative fuels are, road user charges are a broad topic.

I see the discussion more alike to that of subsidising BEVs and other low carbon transport solutions. The greater picture of how to encourage and fund the decarbonisation of personal transport, and road transport in general.

EV’s up the ante.

Better hurry if you want to buy a new ICE Rolls Royce.

A big fat heavy battery can only enhance the sedate performance.

‘Rollers’ have not been the first choice of most motorists for sustained long distance touring. Being solid and sedate extra weight was traditionally not a concern.

Although for a price the 6.7l twin turbo V12 ICE used in the Wraith and Ghost likely delivered a respectable amount of power and exhaust emissions.

How will the wealthier from the Middle Eastern States prefer to proceed? :wink:

There are other words for it, refined, majestic, alluring, …

Other words such as thrilling, bold, exciting, or even brash are reserved for lesser Marques such as Bentley and Aston Martin. Both have put a line in the sand and will end ICE vehicles in the next five years.

The only thing likely to appreciate faster than the last of these Marques ICE vehicles may be the cost of premium unleaded fuel in the UK and Europe.

Thinking: if Australia becomes a dumping ground for the worlds unwanted ICE’s, how cheap might a W12 engined Bentley be! Slightly higher performance than the top end Rolls!
