I have been drinking Kirks Dry Ginger Ale for some years, (safely sterilised with Scotch Whisky),

I’d be a little concerned about the potency of your choice of Whisky.
Ethyl alcohol - one recommendation is that it needs to be 60-80% alcohol in solution to be effective. (US CDC)
