Apparently, it can be sourced from the US, but there’s a complication (besides cost). In the US, the product can be confused with greaseproof or baking paper. There also seems to be some distinction between wax paper and waxed paper.
When did the product disappear from the Australian market? I’m (somewhat reliably) informed that it’s indispensable for some crafts. Something about nothing sticking to it.
I recently bought some waxed paper. It was in a plastic sleeve, which I discarded and put it into a used gladwrap type box (with cutting edge) so I don’t know what the brand was. I had no trouble finding it and also have grease proof, baking paper & brown paper that also came in plastic or paper sleeves - they are all in recycled wrap boxes. I thought these would be in hot demand now there’s a move away from plastic wrap and plastic sandwich bags.
While I don’t doubt that waxed paper can be bought online and might be stocked in some places, as far as I can tell, it isn’t in stock anywhere in my regional town. The question is when did it become such a rarity?
