WARNING on the extortion perpetrated by EFTPOS gift cards

I apologise if this has already been posted but I didn’t see it when I searched. I wanted to warn people that there is fine print to be aware of when purchasing these cards. We bought an emergency $20 card for a gift as we were exiting a supermarket and didn’t notice the $7.95 PURCHASE FEE until we checked the docket later. A 40% purchase fee seems a bit steep. Looks like EFTPOS won’t be around for much longer anyway with tap and pay which may be a good thing.

What a blatant rip-off.

Officeworks list them with face values between $50 and $500, each with purchase fees ranging from $5.95 to $7.95.

Something to avoid like the plague.

One difference though is the plague is preventable and curable 89% of the time.

Once you’ve handed over the extra $7.95 for the purchase fee, there is only remorse.
