The up to percentage fake sale

Hi is there anybody out there who are sick and tired of fake retail sales pitch where the advertise a sale where an up to percentage is offered and when you look on the companies website very little of their product for sale have been reduced. I have been looking for a new guitar and one site was offering up to 30% off another was offering 10% but when I checked their respective websites very little was reduced surely this is false advertising.

Very common but legal.

Goods must be sold at a price for a reasonable period before a discount from that price is displayed according to the ACCC. This means that they can’t increase the price for a day, and then drop the price back to what it was and say it is a discount.

According to the ACCC retail price setting by suppliers is illegal, so stores can sell at whatever price they choose. Perhaps these two stores original prices were higher.

If a discount amount (say 30%) is advertised, it must be off the recent price otherwise it is deemed misleading advertising. So if they advertised a 30% discount, they MUST drop the price by 30% off their the selling price prior to the sale.

Just because site A advertises a discount, it doesn’t mean that they are necessarily cheaper than site B which is not discounting. Site A is not engaging in misleading advertising IF their original price was higher for a reasonable time than site B’s.

This is why it pays to shop around.

What are the conditions for this type of sale (scam) don’t they have to show at least one item they have reduced.

It would be better if they advertised the percentage of products they have in the sale.
It could be a 30% discount on a $10 item, obviously devised for the gulable.

Another variation on this is the buy one pair get 50% off on the second pair of shoes sale. EG Mathers et al.

The second pair discount is typically restricted to specially marked sale items. Aside from getting you to feel good about spending top price on the first pair, are the second choice products specially marked or tagged with the genuine fair retail price, or have they been marked up prior?

It’s amazing just how many of the lady’s fashion all leather made in China footware retails for close to $200. Men’s footware in comparison with massively sized soles and half an ox’s worth of leather sells for less.

The ‘less is more’ sale when it comes to petite feet?
China is certainly keeping up with the Italian’s for high priced and premium product! :joy:

Most of these retailers have sites on FB, but only display favourable reviews.
