I have noticed that IKEA especially have anchors in their flat packs. Our fridge, a Mitsubishi multidoor/drawer combo even came with one but the instructions were for the anchor to stop it moving in earthquakes!
I was in Japan during a 6+. Once you experience that it is easy to understand. We westerners were in a cold sweat while our Japanese hosts did not miss a beat but understood we were ‘concerned’ and advised ‘we are having an earthquake now’ to make it all right for us.
I had the reverse experience. A young lady guest from Japan was present when the nearby coal mine fired a blast. This was just after the big tsunami (2011 I think) and she was rather nervous. I explained it was not a risk - I didn’t mention the Newcastle earthquake.
I believe we are living a new fibro era. What houses are made of and everything in them is cheap and nasty.
