The Case for the NEG - Flawed?

The NEG is long dead.
This week 13 June 22 there is ongoing concern over supply meeting demand.

Those wanting to keep tabs on what is happening across the NEM and electricity supply Qld, NSW, ACT, Vic, SA and TAS can keep up to date with the following live link on where the electrons are being generated and consumed

Currently

At this instant in time one observation is that NSW is heavily reliant on the other states to keep it’s lights on, 1311MW of generation short of demand. While from time to time other states, including QLD can be short local capacity, NSW appears to be most reliant on all the other states to provide for short falls in capacity on a daily basis.

Others might like to comment on the wider public discussion including the anticipated issues arising from the high wholesale prices (cost of generation).

Another snapshot a little later in the evening.
It’s intended to be informative and add to our cumulative understanding. The graphs show the energy sources used for powering the the NEM, (all 5 states plus ACT) at that time of the evening.

Note:
Approx 1/2 or 50% of generation was coming from coal (black + brown)
Approx 1/3 or 32% of generation was coming from renewables (hydro + wind)
Approx 1/6 or 16% of generation was coming from gas

Gas generation is the most expensive of the 3 but is even in this peak time the lesser of the 3 sources, and mostly used to meet the evening peak demand.
