We are unable to access our Optus email and have been told they no longer provide email as part of their service, I don’t remember ever being advised if this. Does anyone know how to get access?

Who told you that? I can find nothing on the internet or especially on the Optus site suggesting they are not doing email any more.
Rather than speculate, I suggest you contact Optus support
